MELBOURNE, Fla.–The University of Tampa men’s soccer team has been selected to finish fifth in the Sunshine State Conference preseason poll, as announced Tuesday. The top five teams include Lynn, Saint Leo, Florida Tech, Rollins and Tampa.
Tampa ended last season with a record of 9-6-2, and 2-5-1 in the SSC, as they just missed the SSC tournament. Head coach Adrian Bush, who is heading into his 11th season, is eager about the squads potential with all the talent returning for the 2015 campaign. The talented UT side returns several key players including Chris Campbell and Nikolai Hammer. Other key returners include midfielders,Keith Francisco, Theo Brown and Garett Garcia. When asked about his returning player Bush said “it is the first time in a long time that we have seven guys returning, the entire senior class will be leaned on heavily.”
Some key new players for the Spartans this year are Troy Tucker and Jake Winship. Coach Bush went on to say that “the whole group of incoming players has done very well, and we are encouraged by what we are seeing so far just being days into training.”
The Fighting Knights received 62 total votes and seven first place votes in the poll. Lynn is the defending National Champions, as well as the SSC regular season and tournament champions.
The 2015 Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer season opens up on September 3. Conference play begins on September 16.
