JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — History was made Wednesday night as the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team got off to its best start in program history with a 1-0 victory at Jacksonville.
“We are excited to have managed a 1-0 win on the road – especially at a venue where we lost 1-0 a year ago,” FAU Head Coach Patrick Baker said. “Jacksonville played a different system than we expected and it posed some problems to break down cleanly. Plus, they had some great looks at our goal and we bent a little bit, but didn’t break defensively.
The Owls (5-1) earned their third shutout of the season behind goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater’s five saves. The redshirt junior now owns 11 career shutouts in just her second season at FAU, ranking fourth all-time in program history.
