Weston FC 2014 Summer Futsal League
FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi said: “In Argentina, when I was a young boy, I used to play a lot of Futsal on the street and with Newell’s Old Boys. It was a really fun game that’s helped me a great deal.” Click here for full article — Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo said: “In Portugal, all we played growing up was Futsal. The smaller court helped my footwork skills, the nature of the game made me feel so free when I played. If it wasn’t for Futsal, I would not be the player I am today.”
Weston FC is proud to announce the Summer Futsal League for 2014. Players will play 6v6 games twice a week this summer at the Weston Regional Park hockey/futsal rinks. You will develop skill, coordination, balance, and agility; all while having fun playing soccer!
Why Futsal? The most skillful players in the history of the game have grown up playing futsal; a game played in small spaces with a weighted ball to encourage skill rather than kicking and running. Players must learn to settle the ball rapidly, turn sharply, shield effectively, pass quickly and move into open space. Compared to walled soccer or large field soccer, Futsal places a greater premium on ball control. There is no incentive to kick and run; because the field is too small and packed with players. Players with the ball must use proper technique to maintain control and must seek out other players in space. Players without the ball must move to real; space and must truly support their teammates.
Players touch the ball up to five times more in small-sided games than in 11-a-side football. The ball is out of play 8-10% of the time in a small-sided game, compared to 34% in 11-a-side.Players learn to cope in tight spaces and have less time on the ball.It improves spatial awareness and decision making.
